About the mask

ETERNITY AND LIGHT

“The mask is in the form of a rounded oval in thin sheet gold, shallowly embossed to represent a human face shown frontally. There are small attachment holes to each side presumably originally to fasten the mask to the head of the deceased. Masks on sheet gold are known from across the globe and their use in funerary ritual seems to have been a constant human practice where the importance of the deceased and the availability of gold allowed it. Since gold can seldom be linked to a source on the basis of composition, and the technology is too simple to be linked to a specific culture, suggesting an origin has to be a matter of stylistic consideration. The various experts who have considered the mask from a stylistic point of view, such as Mycenaean specialist professor Robert Laffineur, support its Greek origin and its antiquity…”

Since the dawn of humanity, the quest for eternity has woven itself into the fabric of our existence. Across civilizations and epochs, individuals have endeavored to preserve their identity and awaken latent powers that transcend mortality. Central to this pursuit is the human face, a vessel through which spirit manifests in physical form.

Throughout history, rituals have employed masks crafted from diverse materials, leather, wood, ceramic, and even precious metals like silver and gold, to encapsulate the essence of what they represent. In some cultures, these masks serve as garments of immortality, enduring long after the passing of their wearers.

Before the astronomical revelations of Galileo, the sun was perceived as the center of life, with gold revered as its elemental counterpart, a symbol of consciousness, knowledge, and illumination. Its unyielding nature symbolizes immortality, a trait traditionally attributed to divine beings. The pursuit of eternity, intertwined with the endurance of gold, suggests a profound link between survival and the perpetuation of knowledge, a journey towards enlightenment and the attainment of higher truths.

The golden mask is a symbol of eternity and light.
